Solitude Time in My September Garden

My schedule has been out of ordinary busy recently both at work and at home.  While I have very little time left to write and read the blog recently, I do make sure I spare a little time to walk through my garden everyday to unwind myself.  Even just spending a short 10 minutes in solitude is so important to me, only me and my garden, nothing else.

Oh, you are welcome to follow me, quietly...

I am in love with my garden in September with so many colors, both on flowers and the foliage.  Here are some of my favorite spots or plant combinations in the garden...

White Christmas caladium and Persian shield in the container...

Chartreuse colored sweet potato with three different caladiums in another container....

Backyard west flower bed with Aechmea blanchetiana 'Orangeade', ground orchids, variegated devil's backbone, caladiums, Variegated Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet 'Variegata'), vincas.

Bromeliads in this corner have setting pups.  Maybe one more year, I can have this space filled completely.

East side backyard with Agaves (Agave desmettiana 'Variegata', Agave Angustifolia Variegata , Agave lophantha hybrid ) and bulbines.  There are about half dozen pups growing out of Agave desmettiana 'Variegata'.  Burbines are ready to divide again.  I may give away some to my friends.

Flax lily with blue daze (Evolvulus)...

This bed has most butterfly favorites, zinnias, pentas, vinca and blue porterweeds, along with roses, purple fountain grass and diamond frost.

Mexican Bush Sage (Salvia leucantha) started blooming again after I cut it back to one third of the length two months ago.  Love its long blue/purple flower spikes. It makes a nice combination with pink vincas and Siam Tulips.
.

The new side bed has been filled in quickly...  My new favorite yellow ground orchid is also planted here.   Those white Cat's Wiskers almost bloom non stop, got to love that!

You can tell Coleus is becoming my new favorites in the garden...  They are adding so much color into the flower bed.

Here is one Coleus hidden in the above picture...

They are also in this new shady garden.  Hmmm, looks like I am running out of the space of this bed already!

Acalypha wlkesiana (Copperleaf or Beafsteak) is blooming with those red fuzzy flowers.  They are rather insignificant compared to its colorful foliage.

This begonia does have both flowers and foliage that this gardener loves!    The flowers are clustered soft pink, and the leaves has the upside dark purple with a deep red color on the back.

Brazil Red Hots was frozen to the ground in January, and it is slowly recovering...  The color is so showy against other green foliage.

Well, maybe I spent more than 10 minutes.  I do feel recharged, and tomorrow is another day!

Do you like the solitude time in the garden?

  2. What a nice peaceful and quiet walk through your gardens Ami. Quite refreshing. If I walked out in mine right now I would see a gazillion things that need doing and I'm just not up to it.

You have so much color and variation in your foliage and blooms.

    Enjoy your week ~ FlowerLady

  4. Yes, that daily walk in the garden, no matter how short, is a necessity, isn't it? Your garden is looking so nice. It is obvious that it's loved and well cared for. Gotta say I love those broms, especially that 'Orangeade'...and the caladiums...and the ground orchids (mine aren't blooming!)...and...well, I could go on and on...

Thanks for sharing your quiet walk with us!

  5. That was lovely and relaxing Ami. You've so many interesting shapes to the foliage and all the different colours especially from the bromeliads and coleus make it so "eye appealing".

I love being in the garden on my own - especially late evening time.

  6. You are so right in saying that just a little time in the garden is a great way to unwind from a hectic day. Or, as I do, it is a good way to begin a day. 'Orangeade' is looking especially beautiful. What a good fall color it has. I'm so glad you showed us that hidden coleus. The bed you have with all those coleus is really full and colorful now. Everything in your garden looks like it is getting well established and happy.

  11. I love your diversity of flowers. It seems like you have both sun and shade, which makes it nice for gardeners. Then we can plant all kinds of blooming beauties.

I especially like the ground orchids too. Mine were bitten pretty hard with the winter freeze, and they came back, but they haven't bloomed yet. I envy your yellow one.

Coleus are great little plants. They grow fast and offer so many different colors.

    Beautiful garden.

  13. Ami,
There is nothing like a garden walk to rejuvenate mind and soul. And like you said if only for a few minutes. It makes all the difference in the world to center our thoughts and refresh our brains. So, yes, I LOVE my solitude time. I just wrote a post (not published yet) about the same thing.

And, wow, things are really filling in the sunny and shady parts of your well-nurtured garden. Your combinations are eye-catching as well as soothing. The begonia varieties are a favorite here too with that showy foliage.

Enjoy the time you have, dear Ami. So glad to hear you are loving your September garden.

  14. I think all gardeners could learn something from you, Ami. I feel bad when I don't have time to visit other blogs and comment, but I think the most important thing is to enjoy our gardens and maybe share that with others. I do need to spend some time outdoors and just enujoy the beauty :-)
